A vial that spent nine days in an unrefrigerated overseas parcel is a different material to the one described on its certificate. Storage is not a footnote — in Australia it is the whole problem.

Freeze–thaw is cumulative damage
Every freeze–thaw cycle concentrates solutes at the ice interface and exposes the peptide to a pH shift as buffer components crystallise out. Two cycles are usually tolerable. Ten are not. The fix is boring and effective: aliquot on first reconstitution into single-use volumes and never re-freeze the parent vial.
What actually degrades
- Oxidation at methionine, cysteine and tryptophan residues — accelerated by light and dissolved oxygen.
- Deamidation at asparagine and glutamine, strongly pH- and temperature-dependent.
- Aggregation at the air–liquid interface, worsened by shaking and by repeated draws.
- Adsorption onto plastic surfaces at low concentrations, which quietly lowers your effective dose.

What happens if a summer delivery sits in a hot letterbox?
Lyophilised material tolerates short ambient excursions far better than reconstituted material, but repeated or prolonged heat exposure will degrade it. Use a delivery address that is attended, or redirect to a parcel locker.
